1. ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ที่ได้ทำแล้ว เสร็จเรียบร้อยแล้วในอดีต มักมีคำบอกอดีตกำกับเอาไว้เช่น yesteday ,last...etc
  I wrote a letter to my friend last week.     ฉันเขียนจดหมายหาเพื่อนเมื่ออาทิตย์ที่แล้ว

  We donated our money for the poor yesterday.  พวกเราบริจาคเงินเพื่อคนยากจนเมื่อวาน 

2. การบอกว่าทำ อะไรบ่อยๆในอดีต มักมีคำบอกอดีตมากำกับด้วย เช่น
  She played piano every evening last month.  เขาเล่นเปียโนทุกเย็นเมื่อเดือนที่แล้ว

  I had an extra English course after school when I was 10. 
  เมื่อฉันอายุ 10ขวบ ฉันมีเรียนภาษาอังกฤษหลังเลิกเรียน

3. การทำหลายๆสิ่งต่อเนื่องกันในอดีต เช่น
He went to school but he skipped the class,played football with his friends and slept all day. เขาไปโรงเรียนแต่ โดดเรียน เตะบอลกับเพื่อน และนอนทั้งวัน
